Applied economics

The aim is to create a specialist, ready to make analysis and find efficient decisions of complex problems within different subject spheres of modern economy. Graduating Master students become universal specialists due to the knowledge not only of economics but mathematical methods, system approach, simulation and modelling technique.

MAE program was developed by the leading professors of six Ukrainian universities together with professors of two Greek and one British university. The program structure and students’ loading were defined in the course of International project TACIS TEMPUS CD_JEP-21135-2000 “New Economic Master Degree for the Universities of Ukraine”, which was agreed with the Ministry of Science and Education of Ukraine. Program structure and its content correspond to “Applied Economics” Master degree, proposed by European universities.

 

Term of studying is 2 years. MAE program provides advanced fundamental, humanitarian, socio-economic, pedagogical, theoretical and practical training.  The program includes:

  • Balancing courses – Mathematics and basics of Modelling; Economics; Russian/Ukrainian language; History and Culture of Ukraine
  • Humanitarian cycle - Methodology of scientific research, Actual problems of philosophy, Professional foreign language, Higher education and Bologna process;
  • Cycle of fundamental modules - Economic cybernetics, Economic dynamics, Economic modelling,  Time series, Applied econometrics, Discrete simulation; Input-output balance models;
  • Cycle of applied modules - Industrial Economics, Labour markets, World economy and globalization, Supply chains modelling, New technologies, Agricultural economy,  Project management, E-commerce, Actuarial calculations, Decision making methods

Great attention is paid to advanced studying of  foreign language (Russian/Ukrainian). 

Within each discipline there are module control works and/or computational tasks.

In the fourth semester Master students have to pass a complex degree exam and defend their master graduation works.

Studying and assessment procedures are based on European Credit Transfer System. Academic staff, taking part in MAE program has passed a probation period in Greek and British universities. All the disciplines are provided with modern manuals and software.



The growing intake of Master students gives evidence that MAE program is competitive and is in demand, especially by those who need the second economic speciality, aimed at managing of quantitative methods of analysis and economic modelling. Mixture of fundamental knowledge in economics, mathematics and computer sciences broaden the possibilities of  job placement. Masters in Applied Economics work successfully in different spheres of economy: on enterprises, banks, firms, consulting companies, state and municipal authorities etc. Qualification of “economist-analytic” permits our graduates to occupy leader positions in enterprises and organizations and fulfil analytical work, using computer and information technologies
